Faculty Profile

Yingzong Liang, Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. His research focuses on thermodynamic, environmental, and economic issues in the conversion, dispatch, and storage of energy and water resources. His primary research areas include advanced energy system optimization, thermal management of renewable energy systems, seawater desalination, carbon dioxide energy storage, and carbon neutrality.

He has led several research and educational projects, including General and Young Scientists Programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as provincial-level initiatives such as the Guangdong Offshore Wind Power Joint Fund. He holds more than ten authorized Chinese invention patents and has published over 70 SCI-indexed papers. In the past five years, he has authored or co-authored 21 Q1 SCI papers as first or corresponding author in leading journals such as Applied Energy, Environmental Science & Technology, and Energy Conversion and Management. His research has also been featured by platforms such as the Applied Energy Innovation Institute and other media outlets in the fields of applied energy and thermal radiation and micro/nano photonics. He also serves as a reviewer for major funding agencies, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and key R&D programs of Guangdong Province. He is also an active peer reviewer for prestigious journals such as Applied Energy and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.

Many of his Ph.D. and Master's graduates have pursued academic and research careers at leading universities in Guangdong Province and institutions such as the Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute under China Energy Engineering Corporation. He has established long-term collaborations with internationally renowned universities, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Cornell University, Queen Mary University of London, and Université Paris Cité. Outstanding candidates with backgrounds in Energy and Power Engineering, New Energy Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines are warmly welcomed to join his research group.
